Microblading vs. Machine Hair Strokes: Pros and Cons

Microblading is a type of semi-permanent tattooing that uses a sharp, handheld tool with seven or more microneedles that are used to add semi-permanent pigment to the skin. This is done with manual tools to allow for accuracy when sculpting each eyebrow hair. A series of angles and different blades are used to draw long, short, straight, and curved eyebrow hairs.

For machine hair strokes, a digital machine is used to add pigment to the skin. This machine places the pigment slightly deeper than the microblading technique, which typically leads to it lasting longer. You can expect microblading to last around 18 months and require touchups, whereas the machine hair stroke technique can last around 2 to 2 1/2 years, depending on your lifestyle and your skin type.

Those with oily or delicate skin may not be the best candidates for microblading but could benefit from machine tattooing.

In some cases, you will perform combination brows that use both the tools and techniques of each of these eyebrow methods, creating a natural but also makeup effect look that many clients are seeking.
